Turning fifteen years of research on West African borders — fieldwork, international conferences — into a site that reads quickly and inspires trust from the very first image.

The context
Dr Kamal Donko is a political geography researcher at LASDEL Benin. He works on border dynamics, migration and crisis prevention in the Sahel — the kind of topics where a badly worded sentence costs a lot of credibility. He advises ministries, NGOs and European universities, and his name was well known long before this site. His online presence, however, came down to LinkedIn profiles and articles scattered across other people’s websites.
The challenge
Two tensions to manage at once. On one side, very dense material: a PhD, seven research positions, a dozen international workshops, publications, six overlapping fields of expertise. On the other, visitors arriving with a simple, urgent question.
We also had to avoid two classic traps: the cold institutional site that erases the person behind the expertise, and the academic portfolio where everything sits at the same level and nothing stands out.
